180 year old Hanson Logistics opens new self storage business

Newly launched Hanson Self Storage, part of the family-owned Hanson Logistics business, opened this week in Huddersfield to bring a new standard of self storage and decades of warehousing experience from the Hanson Logistics team to the public.

Hanson Self-Storage received a £multimillion investment from HSBC earlier this year to develop the site, which is adjacent to the Hanson Logistics operation. Launched by the team behind Hanson Logistics, which was established in 1846, Hanson Self Storage has created 5 new jobs to date and has plans to expand to multiple sites over the next five years.

The 73.000 (40,000 phase one) sq. ft site has opened with 500 units available initially, across three floors, which will increase to 1000 units once the site has been fully fitted out.

Hanson Self Storage has leading edge technology embedded throughout the premises, including NOKE entry systems, AI-powered thermography and AI situational awareness support that will monitor for security and safety using criteria including temperature and air quality. There will also be staff on site 24/7.

All of Hanson Logistics’ operations are carbon neutral, and Hanson Self Storage’s building has been designed with efficiency throughout, including low powered access control systems, lighting and MID Meter compliant EV chargers supplying100% from solar energy. 64 solar panels have been installed with the potential and space for additional installation in the future, as Hanson aims to run all its operations from renewable energy sources.
