Supporting Business Growth
Yorkshire’s Visitor Economy
Tourism is one of Yorkshire’s most valuable industries, attracting millions of visitors each year to its cities, countryside and coast. The sector generates billions of pounds in visitor spend, sustains more than 140,000 jobs across the region, and provides vital support to local communities and supply chains
Last year, North Yorkshire’s visitor economy grew to £4.2 billion, welcoming over 32 million visitors and supporting more than 38,000 jobs, while West Yorkshire saw record highs with 73 million visitors, generating £6.26 billion in spend and sustaining 54,000 jobs. South Yorkshire contributed a further £3.7 billion with 36 million visits and 32,000 jobs, and Hull and East Yorkshire added 12 million trips worth £815 million, supporting over 21,000 jobs. Together, these figures demonstrate the scale of tourism’s contribution to Yorkshire’s economy and the breadth of its impact across urban, rural and coastal areas.
