Commercial interiors specialist scores with two York sports teams
Two thriving York sports teams are now wearing smart new kits after Ben Johnson Interiors became their official shirt sponsor.
Ben Johnson Cricket Club now has its namesake emblazoned across the front of their cricket whites. The origins of Ben Johnson Interiors date back to 1855 when it started out as a York based printing company, known as Ben Johnson.
In 1957, the firm’s employees formed Ben Johnson Cricket Club and it became one of many works-based teams that were popular at the time. Nearly 70 years later, the club is one of the last remaining works teams still playing competitively in the area and this season they have been promoted into division four of the Yorkshire Premier League North.
Haxby Town Under-7s football team will also have the company’s logo on their kits from the start of the 2026/27 season. The team competes against other clubs from across York and the surrounding area and plays home games at Oaken Grove Community Centre.
Matthew Day, director at the York headquartered interiors specialist, said: “As a successful York-based business, we’re proud to be able to support these two teams and give back to the communities where we operate. It’s also particularly exciting because we have so much shared heritage with Ben Johnson Cricket Club.
“Both clubs have been around for many years and give local people and children the opportunity to play sport every week, so it’s great for us to support and be involved with them. We’re all looking forward to seeing how their seasons progress and cheering them on.”
Paul Morrison, team captain of Ben Johnson Cricket Club, added: “This partnership feels like a homecoming. To be supported by a company that shares not just a name but a deep-rooted connection with our origins means a lot. It’s more than just a logo on a shirt – it’s a celebration of York’s industrial and sporting history.”
Ben Johnson Interiors recently reported more than £7m in revenue during a nine-month period between March and December 2025 after completing a series of high-profile commercial fit-out projects across the UK.
The company is on target to build on that success during 2026 and is currently working on projects in the healthcare, education and office sectors.
