Digital, creative and tech industries are among the fastest-growing parts of Yorkshire’s economy, employing more than 130,000 people across the region. Together these sectors contribute billions of pounds each year, with creative industries alone adding an estimated £2.3 billion in West Yorkshire, around 3.1 per cent of the local economy (West Yorkshire Combined Authority). South Yorkshire has seen rapid expansion of its tech base, with the value of local startups reaching around £3 billion in 2024, almost eight times higher than a decade earlier.

Leeds is recognised as one of the UK’s strongest digital centres, home to thousands of digital and tech firms generating hundreds of millions in value and showing some of the highest projected growth potential outside London. Yorkshire is also building a reputation in the film and screen industries, with major productions choosing to film in the region thanks to its diverse locations and skilled workforce. Bradford, as the world’s first UNESCO City of Film, and Screen Yorkshire’s investment in production skills and infrastructure, underline the sector’s international profile (Yorkshire Universities).
