Midweek Weddings launched at Deighton Lodge amid rising demand for flexible planning

Nestled amongst three acres of outstanding natural beauty, independent wedding venue Deighton Lodge, based just three miles from York, has introduced midweek wedding ceremonies in response to growing demand for more flexible planning options.

Offering both indoor and outdoor ceremonies, Deighton Lodge was founded by local businesswoman Carla Mitchell, who launched the wedding barn venue in 2016 to create memorable and relaxed celebrations for couples across Yorkshire and beyond.

Originally offering only weekend ceremonies, Carla has now adapted the business to include midweek weddings following research from the Bank of England indicating a rising trend in couples choosing weekday celebrations. Alongside affordability, stress and supplier availability are regular themes in Carla’s conversations with visiting couples to Deighton Lodge.

Carla says: “When I look back at planning my own wedding, I resonate with many of the couples who visit us and the emotional weight that can come with securing weekend dates. Midweek weddings are something I’ve discussed with couples before, but because Deighton Lodge also operates as a guest house, I needed to ensure the logistics were better balanced, so the two sides of the business didn’t overlap. This has now been achieved, which means we can offer midweek weddings and provide greater ceremony availability during peak season.”

Creating calm and memorable celebrations is important to Carla, who is also a trained yoga teacher which has helped her to better manage her chronic anxiety. She continues: “Practising yoga has become my ‘go‑to’ for any worry and has helped me find inner peace. I believe it has helped me to better shape Deighton Lodge into a venue that feels peaceful, relaxed and full of character. Creating meaningful and stress‑free wedding celebrations is incredibly important to me, and I feel we’ve got the ambiance of the space just right.”

Deighton Lodge employs a small team of four, with Natasha Douglas recently taking up the role of General Manager after five years as the venue’s Head of Housekeeping. Carla adds: “I feel very lucky to have Natasha as our new General Manager. She knows the logistics of Deighton Lodge incredibly well, and I’m confident she will help couples feel more at ease during the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. I’m excited to finally be able to host midweek weddings, as it will open many more doors for us as a business and offer couples more options that may better suit their needs.”
