Sheffield’s second tallest building reaches major development milestone

The construction of Sheffield’s second tallest building, the new student hub true student, has reached a major milestone in the build project following the completion of the site’s highest structural feature.

true student, a leading provider of premium, experience-led student accommodation, commemorated the achievement with a topping out ceremony hosted by Aztec Construction and attended by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Jayne Dunn.

The new 28 storey building, located on the site of a former BMW car garage on Broad Lane, will offer 494 beds for students from the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.
The core of the building stands at 85.6 m high, and marks the first major change to the city’s skyline since the construction of St Paul’s Tower in 2010. Once complete, it will also feature a sky lounge and outdoor terrace on the 26th floor, allowing students to make the most of the breathtaking panoramic views across the city and the Pennines.

More than 400 jobs were created during the construction phase, we employ 190 people daily and have partnered with Sheffield College to offer students valuable industry placements.

Designed with the ultimate student experience in mind, the development will feature a mix of shared ensuite apartment style bedrooms and studio rooms, alongside extensive amenities such as dedicated study zones, festival zones for award winning ‘trueLife’ events and easy socialising, and a professional grade gym.

With a focus on health and wellness, true student also offers the widest range of events of any student accommodation in the country. These include a jam-packed calendar of ‘trueLife’ events such as student parties to help residents form friendships at the beginning of the year, pamper nights, puppy yoga and workshops exploring real life skills such as nutrition sessions and cooking classes, to help better equip students for life during and after university.

As well as providing Sheffield students an engaging hub where they can study, socialise and thrive, true student is also committed to supporting the wider community. Together with the development’s contractors, they are raising funds to donate a defibrillator and a bleed control kit to the new site, which will be accessible to the public in case of emergency.

It was a pleasure to attend the topping out ceremony during a momentous occasion in the city’s history.”

True student currently has seven schemes open across the UK, with its newest sites Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield set to open later this year.
