York solicitors tackle a half-marathon a month for Chocolate & Co.

Two solicitors are swapping legal briefs for running shoes in 2025, taking on the challenge of completing a half-marathon every month in aid of York-based café and social enterprise Chocolate and Co.

Lee Stephens and David Rogers, directors of Bridge Employment Solicitors, are lacing up their trainers to raise funds and awareness for Chocolate and Co, a charity that offers employment and training opportunities to people facing addiction, homelessness or involvement with the criminal justice system.

Based on Lowther Street in the Groves area of the city, the charity operates a café that aims to build purpose, dignity and connection through meaningful work, community-based support and handmade treats.

Talking about the challenge, Lee said, “Chocolate & Co. are making a real difference in people’s lives, giving them skills and opportunities to thrive. By running a half-marathon every month, we hope to raise funds and inspire others to support this fantastic local organisation.

“When we first met Linda at Chocolate and Co we were immediately impressed by the brilliant work that they are doing. They provide much-needed help to people who may otherwise fall through the cracks, and they deserve as much support as we can give them.”

What started as an idea over a coffee turned into a plan to raise £3,000 for Chocolate & Co. Lee added, “Both David and I have been social runners for a long time and are no strangers to taking on challenges to raise money for charity. Throughout the year, we have done a mix of organised events as well as bringing our kit into the office and tackling a half-marathon together after a day’s work.”

Now having completed ten half-marathons this year, Lee and David will do the 11th in November and the 12th in December to complete their challenge for this fantastic charity.

The funds raised by Lee and David will go to Chocolate & Co. to help them continue training, mentoring and creating job opportunities. They say every donation, large or small, will help build purpose, dignity and a brighter future for people in York.
